TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

THE LARGEST TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD FOR 14-YEAR OLD PLAYERS

There will be 48 participating teams playing 243 games!  The 48 teams are divided by draw into six groups of eight teams.  All teams in the same group will play each other in a single first round.  The five best teams from each group will proceed to a final. The winning teams from the previous groups will play each other and the results will determine the order of the top positions of the tournament. The teams who come second in their groups will play each other to determine the order of the positions 7 to 12 and so on to position 30.  You are certain to play seven games in the first round and then the five best teams, from every group/ice rink, are certain to play five more games. The 30 best teams will play a total of 12 games/team, against different teams from several countries!!  Games will consist of 2 periods at 15 minutes each; every period time will be effective game time.

GOTHENBURG INFORMATION

Göteborg - the Swedish name of Gothenburg - Sweden’s second largest city, is undergoing a transformation from industrial seaport to contemporary cultural and international sports venue.  The city has gained an international reputation for innovative cuisine using local produce, mainly north Atlantic fish and shellfish. Gothenburg boasts several Michelin Guide restaurants which should not be missed when you visit.  Gothenburg is a gateway to the Western Archipelago, with its peerless isles and barren grey skerries and they are easily accessible by boat from the city.

THE ARENA

All games will be played within the Gothenburg vicinity using six different hockey rinks.

CLIMATE

We will need to be prepared for a range of temperatures which should be somewhere in the 40-54 degree range.

LANGUAGE

The official language is Swedish. Fortunately, for us as visitors most of them can speak English very well including the players. Hotel receptionists and restaurant servers almost invariably speak English excellently. The players have been preparing for one full year for hosting an American boy and have been studying English during this time.

CURRENCY

The Kroner is the official currency and is fully convertible and changing US dollars into their currency is no problem at all local banks and at the airport. Using a credit card can limit or even remove the need to carry large currency or traveler checks. Not only can you pay for many goods and services by card, but you can use them to get cash advances at most banks and ATM's.

PASSPORTS

All players and family members will need US passports for travel and this process should be started immediately.

ELECTRICITY

The current used is 220 V/50 HZ Ac Sockets are the round two pin types which are standard through most of continental Europe.
