STOCKHOLM
INFORMATION
Stockholm has long been considered the
most beautiful capital city in Europe because of its
architrecture, its museums and its waterways.
THE ARENA
All games for the
Lions Cup with be played at the Bjorkangshallen which is
located in the suburb of Huddinge. The main ice facility
seats 2500 people and their is a practice facility directly
beside the main arena. Bjorkangshallen has a full service
concession area as well.
CLIMATE
We will need to be prepared for a range of
temperatures which should be somewhere in the 40-50 degree
range and similar to Chicago late March conditions.
LANGUAGE
The official
language is Swedish. Fortunately, for us as visitors most of
them can speak English very well including the players. Hotel
receptionists and restaurant servers almost invariably speak
English excellently. The players have been preparing for one
full year for hosting an American boy and have been studying
English during this time.
CURRENCY
The Kroner is the official currency and is
fully convertible and changing US dollars into their currency
is no problem at all local banks and at the airport. Using a
credit card can limit or even remove the need to carry large
currency or traveler checks. Not only can you pay for many
goods and services by card, but you can use them to get cash
advances at most banks and ATM's.
PASSPORTS
All players and
family members will need US passports for travel and this
process should be started immediately.
ELECTRICITY
The
current used is 220 V/50 HZ Ac Sockets are the round two pin
type which are standard through most of continental Europe.

HOST FAMILIES

host Swedish family during their stay. Parents need to plan on
bringing over a host family gift for both the adults and the
host player. Generally, families bring over something like a
Hawks/ Redwing/Ranger jersey for the boys and a special gift
of some sort representing your city. Also, Swedish families
enjoy good liquor and a bottle of booze for your first dinner
with them is recommended.
